NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, which carries an optical lens manufactured by Sankyo Optical Industry Co., Ltd., was successfully launched on August 30, 2026.
Sankyo Optical manufactured a focusing lens used in the polarization observation optics of the Coronagraph Instrument aboard the Roman Space Telescope. The lens was supplied through JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) as part of Japan's contribution to the mission.
The Roman Space Telescope was launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. We are extremely proud that a lens manufactured by Sankyo Optical is now traveling into space and will contribute to future astronomical observations.
